I first heard of the series when my boyfriend (now Husband) introduced it to me about 7 years ago. I've always loved vampire books, but they were always set in some far off fantasy world hundreds of years ago. The Anita Blake series is set in the present-day and the supernatural is treated as 'normal'. Anita Blake's World
The series follows the life of Vampire Executioner and Zombie Animator, Anita Blake. Her world is very much like our own, except that the things that go bump in the night actually exist. Vampires, zombies, werewolves, wererats, wereleopards...they're all real!
