Home Sweet Home!

Hallelujah, I’m finally home *waves hands in the air*

I’ve been diagnosed with….wait for it….Idiopathic Inter-Cranial Hyper-Tension  Idiopathic….I think that means I’m an idiot! They did a brain scan thing because my blurred vision could have been caused by a clot or tumour in my brain. Thankfully they ruled that out. Luckily I’d had a similar scan before, because they didn’t warn me about what effects the dye they inject can have on you. It makes your skin feel really warm all over and it feels like you’ve wet yourself too! Hee! But considering that I had to stay completely still during it, you would have thought that they’d warn me. It would really panic you if you were having a scary scan when all of a sudden you get really hot. You’d probably think you were being fried by x-rays or something!

So after clots and tumours had been ruled out, they thought that the fluid behind my eyes wasn’t draining from my spine properly and was increasing the pressure in my eyes, causing the blurriness. To find out, they had to perform a Lumber Puncture test. It’s fucking horrible and I wouldnt recommend it to anyone. They basically insert an extremely long needle into the space between the vertebrae in your spine to extract the fluid. Now the Doctors attempted this /6/ times before they finally did it. The first 6 times they went in ‘blind’….just feeling for the space and inserting the needle. They couldnt find the right place and I could actually feel them scraping the bone trying to find the space. It was extremely painful

They FINALLY decided to perform the Lumber Puncture under x-ray so that they could find the exact spot to go digging. Even that was a big fuss though. I went down to theatre at 9am, but I couldnt have it done until I had a pregancy test because I was a couple of days late. After I was tested as negative back on my ward, they said that they would bring me back down to theatre 20 minutes later. 3.5 hours later they finally collected me. *sigh*. Thankfully, it was a million times better than their previous attempts at a Lumber Puncture and it went perfectly. I don’t even have a huge tennis ball sized bruise on my back from it this time!

The rest of the time at hospital was excrutiatingly boring. I was almost looking forward to it before I went. I thought it would be quite cool to just relax for a bit, read some books and play with my mp3 player. Five minutes after getting there the novelty wore off though. The ward I should have been in was full, so I was put on the Orthopaedic ward with a load of really elderly women. I could hardly sleep at night though, not just because the beds were really uncomfortable, but because the bloke who was in the room opposite yelled all night. It was sad at first, then funny, then overwhelmingly annoying. He refused to use his buzzer to call the Nurses and would yell for them all night. I’d finally get to sleep at midnight at the earliest, but then we’d get rudely awakened at 6am by the Nurses  One good thing about being in that ward though was that I had the shower room to myself because none of them could walk

So yes, I’m now on some funky new medication to go with the rest of my tablet collection *deep joy* I’m just glad that I went to my Optician when I did, as even though this isn’t life-threatening, if it’s left un-treated for too long, it can make you blind! That would be just my luck wouldn’t it! Meheh

Thank you to everyone who sent me get well wishes – it was really appreciated. I’m so grateful to have such caring friends :luv:
