Housing Renewal = DEMOLISH! SMASH!

Some time after Xmas/New Year, we’re going to have to move house. The problem is that we have no idea where to move to. You see, our local Council was given a shit-load of money to either renovate the local area or knock down houses of whole communities to build loads of tiny apartments for extortionate prices. Yeah, I think you can guess which option they chose

It seems that terraced houses aren’t pretty enough any more. So far they’ve built an apartment block of 1 bedroom houses. It looks very pretty from the outside, but inside there’s no room whatsoever. They’re unbelievably tiny. That’s all they’ve built so far too. They knocked down the area that I used to deliver newspapers to about 2yrs ago now, but still haven’t built any new housing.

That’s the thing that pisses me off. I don’t particularly want to move, but if I have to, I’d really like somewhere to move into! I want to stay close to where we currently are because neither of us drive and we have the local school practically on our doorstep. We’re also really close to town which is a big help for me seeing as I can’t walk very far because of my disabilitahhh. They’re ‘renewing’ the whole area though, so we don’t know where we can move to locally because in a few months the street we move to might be knocked down too! ARARGARGGARBLEGARBLE!

We’ll just have to wait until our house gets valued then we can see how much we have to spend. I can’t rest until then!

The law changes on the 1st December, and any new policy or procedure written by a public authority needs to be impact assessed to, duh!!, assess the impact on disadvantaged groups - disabled people, BME communities, frail/elderly etc.

I’d ask your Council for their Impact Assessment following this decision and ask them how they expect those with mobility issues to cope with a) a move further away and b) in smaller space. I’d be interested in their response . . . ?!

Bah - sorry! Sometimes I can’t turn my work head off! In any case, I hope this all turns out to be a wonderfully positive move for you all!

Thanks Vixx, I’ll have to see if I can get in contact with the Council and ask them that. I’ll post any info I get. Thank you for your brain

Jem: Ahaha, yes, I may just have to do that. My friends who live in the same street said that they’re going to chain themselves to the house. Perhaps I should just wait and see if the Council just squishes them. If so, I’ll slightly alter their plan for my use, and chain a council member to my house instead of me
